The #1 Car Buying Mistake

There are many mistakes to avoid when purchasing a new car. One of the more common and perhaps the biggest mistake we see people make is listening to the advice of an unqualified person.

"The number one mistake car buyers make is, they go, 'My friend said it's really good.' You know, this is the only country in the world where people do that," - Jay Leno

We live in a society where friends, co-workers, and even strangers on the street will jump at a chance to give you their opinion. We have to remember that opinions are just opinions. If you want real advice, there are 3 places you can go.

Read Online Car Reviews

Do your own research prior to buying a new car. There are literally millions of excellent online resources just waiting for you. We advise doing a bit of research before you step on a car lot, but in today's world you can also do last minute research from your smart phone. Don't be afraid to take a few minutes to look up reviews of whatever car you are looking at. Check a few trusted resources and compare what qualified people are saying.

Ask Your Mechanic.

There is no better person to ask about cars than a mechanic who works on them all day. A good mechanic will be able to tell you if a certain type of car comes in a lot. He'll be able to tell you the average cost of fixing certain cars, the longevity of specific cars, and even what usually breaks first in a vehicle. If you don't have a mechanic you can trust, just follow our first tip about reading online reviews. You can quickly find a mechanic that people speak highly of to give you advice. Some mechanics will even look over a car for free. Read our blog on "5 Essential Car Buying Tips".

Go for a test drive.

Many times opinions are based off of personal experience. Someone's personal experience of a car may be very different from your test drive experience. People like different things; you may find that the very thing your friend disliked about a car is actually something you enjoy. There are so many cars to choose from and each one drives differently than the next. Take some time to test drive a few cars. Make sure that you are comfortable and feel good about the car you are purchasing.

Choosing the right 1st car for your teenager.

Safety

Safety is always the first thing on any parents mind.  Airbags, car size, weight , and power locks are the classic things to look for. Other than those though are more modern features such as rear view cameras, back up sensors, parking assistance, and even automatic lane change. There are many aspects of safety to consider. You should focus on the most important and necessary features, and then compare them to the price range you are looking to stay in. Search for dependable & safe vehicles!

Price Range

Price range is a big deciding factor in any vehicle purchase. Car budgets are different for everyone. There is no right or wrong answer and it's up to you to decide for yourself. Once you have decided, it's time to narrow you search to vehicles within your price range. Many websites have built in tools to help you narrow your search. Search for quality used vehicles!

Visibility

Visibility falls under vehicle safety, but is also a major contributor to the learning experience. If you teen driver is just starting to drive, they may feel more comfortable seeing more of their surroundings. Many cars have better sight lines, larger windows, and all around better visibility. Be sure to test drive the car with you young driver before making a final decision.

Size

Larger vehicles are making a come back these days. They offer additional storage, space for friends, and more protection during accidents. But bigger isn't always better. Larger cars and vehicles can be more difficult to handle. They can be harder to turn, park, and drive all around. Consider the lifestyle of your teenage driver. Do they play a lot of sports? Are they going off to college? Do they drive long distance? Take everything into account when car shopping. Finding the right car is worth the extra time.

Distractions

Life in general is very distracting. Most car accidents in America are caused by distracted drivers. Finding a car with Bluetooth capabilities and hands-free features is a great idea. You don't want your teenager using their hands to text or call anyone while driving. Music, lighting, and other vehicle features can also cause distractions. Some cars have programmable stereos that control sound, limit functional while driving, and even prohibit changing settings while the car is in motion. As a parent you can decide what your child needs, and from there you can make an educated decision.

Cost Efficiency

Cost efficiency can be broken into gas mileage and vehicle dependability. Hybrid vehicles offer better gas mileage than most traditional cars. Fully electric vehicles are also an option these days, but are still rather rare on the road. Buying a dependable car means finding one that will last a long time. It needs to be able to drive short and long distance. Having a car in and out of the mechanic shop on a regular basis can be quite expensive, so make sure to do your research. Shop at reputable dealers. Read reviews, listen to advice, and take your time. Buying a vehicle is an important decision.

Style

Style probably isn't the first thing on your mind, but it may be for your teenager. A first car is very exciting and memorable. They probably want something "cool and stylish". Style changes from year to year, so ask your teenager what they are looking for. Including them in the car buying experience can be a terrific learning and bonding experience for you both.

Insurance

Car insurance usually takes a spike when adding teenagers to the bill. Speak to your insurance agent about any vehicle you are looking to purchase. You can also ask about getting discounts from your insurance provider. Many companies offer discounts for teens who have good driving records or take special courses.

Ease of Driving

Finding a car that is easy to drive is very important. The best way to figure out what's easy to drive is to start test driving. Be sure to test drive a variety of vehicles with your young driver. Consider buying something similar to the vehicle they learned to drive, or do some research into popular cars for young drivers. Easy cars are safe cars.

Models to Consider

These are just a few ideas to get you started. We hope that our article helps you make the right decision. Read more awesome articles on our blog. Visit Brevard Value Motors to experience best-in-class customer service. We have a great selection of safe and reliable vehicles to choose from.

Things to look for in a car.

There are many reasons people buy vehicles. Everyone has different needs, different lifestyles, and different wants. No matter the type of vehicle you are looking for there are many things to take into account. Will you be using your new vehicle for work or recreation? Do you need comfort, gas mileage, dependability, or maybe all of the above?

Leg room and trunk space.

Most sedans these days have more room than ever. SUV's and Vans used to be the go to "family vehicles". But these days there are many more options available. Extended cab trucks, cross-overs, and even sporty cars are being made with comfort and storage in mind. SUV's still provide the most interior trunk space, and have the added benefit of being taller than most cars. Trucks have open beds that are great for moving larger objects, and these beds can be covered with a variety of leather, plastic, and metal options. But don't forget about all the other options! One thing that may surprise you is the leg space provided in most sedans these days. Back seats have become more comfortable than ever. Trunks are also being made larger and deeper.

Safety first.

The word safe may cause you to think about seat belts, airbags, and crash test results, but it means so much more. Having a dependable vehicle is safe. Making sure that you can get where you need to go without breaking down is important. Choosing a vehicle that will last you as long as you need is safe. Make sure that you purchase from honest and reliable people, and always have a mechanic look over your new purchase.

Sport & Speed.

Another reason that people buy cars is for pleasure. You may be looking to reward yourself for a great year, or maybe you just love nice automobiles. Either way, sporty vehicles are fun, and these days they come in all shapes and sizes. There are a ton of sporty vehicles to choose from at Brevard Value Motors. Whether you are looking for an SUV, Truck, Cross-Over, Sedan, or Van, we've got you covered. Swing by for a test drive and meet our super friendly staff.

5 Essential Car Buying Tips

1) Read Reviews.

Be sure to check out some online reviews before going to any dealership. Who you buy from is just as important as what you buy. Reviews can be found in number of places. Google, Facebook, Yelp, and other websites can provide you with plenty of honest reviews. If you don't manage to research a dealer prior to showing up, you can always pull up some reviews on your phone.

2) Have a mechanic check the vehicle you are purchasing.

Many mechanics will take a look at vehicles for free. Using a third party or mechanic that you trust will help you make the right decision when buying a car. Any dealer worth buying from should also have a CarFax report ready and available for you. CarFax is a great tool for learning more about the vehicle you are looking to buy.

3) Trust your feelings.

If the dealer or salesman is dragging out the process, don't be afraid to walk away. Remember that they are suppose to help you through the car buying process.  They should want to earn your business, treat you with respect, and provide you with an overall pleasant car buying experience. Take a look around the lot and office. You can usually tell if a person takes pride in their dealership. You want to buy from someone you feel good about.

4) Ask the dumb questions.

When looking to buy a vehicle there really are no dumb questions. If there is anything you are unsure about, ask about it! If you don't get the answer you are looking for, ask the salesman to clarify. If people are being dodgy with you, it may be a good time to leave. Buying any vehicle is a big decision, and you should be well informed prior to doing so. You need to clearly understand the vehicle and your purchasing options.

5) Do your own research.

You may have no idea what kind of vehicle you are looking for. Browse the internet, ask a trusted friend, and do some research to find what kind of vehicle will best suit your needs. After you have an idea of the vehicle you are looking for, do a little research into the top brands and models. There is so much information on the internet just waiting for you.

2010 Ford Edge Limited - Test Drive Review

Living on the Edge.

The 2010 Ford Edge is a beautiful vehicle. It's sleek body style is immediately recognizable, and it will surely stand out in a crowd. It's basically a sportier version of the Ford Escape. As someone who drives a lot of SUV's, the Ford Edge is honestly my favorite. This review is easier to write than most, because I have so many lovely things to say about Ford Edge's. They are dependable, attractive, spacious, and this particular one comes fully loaded.

Get toasty for the Holidays with built in seat warmers.

This Ford Edge comes with dual climate control, a sun roof, an all black leather interior, seat warmers, and automatic everything! One thing I didn't expect was how my much I would enjoy the seat warmers. Not only are they great for taking the chill off, but heat also relaxes muscles and increases blood flow. Seat warmers make longer trips even more comfortable than they already are in this SUV. Did I mention that this Limited Edition Edge is also ALL WHEEL DRIVE!

It's what's inside that counts.

The interior of this Ford Edge matches the exterior. It's equally as slick and beautiful. From the all black leather to the chrome trimmings this car feels like Christmas on wheels. The Limited edition Ford's really come decked out. The trunk space is incredible and easily fits any double size stroller. I managed to pile a full load of groceries into the trunk with a double stroller, and I still had more room. The seats themselves are beyond comfortable. The sun roof lets in tons of additional light and makes for a relaxing driving experience. This particular 2010 Ford Edge has just 66k miles on it! It's super clean and ready for a new home.

2014 Ford F-150 Platinum SuperCrew - Truck Review

It's a bird. It's a plane. It's a SuperCrew F-150 Truck!

I've always enjoyed driving Ford F-150's, and this truck is no exception. This particular truck is fully loaded. The leather is in ridiculously great condition. The A/C blows strong and cold, the transmission shifts smoothly, the engine rumbles boldly, and its painted a slick black. The steering wheel has stereo, blue tooth, and cruise controls built in. This Ford also features a sun roof, alloy wheels, and of course 4 wheel drive.

The quality you've come to expect in a Ford.

I'm not partial to any one car company, but as someone who drives a lot of vehicles, Ford has been putting a lot of effort into making their vehicles have a high quality feel to them. This F-150 is especially cool looking, because it is a Platinum addition. The seats and chrome door plates say Platinum on them. This F-150 looks like it has all the bells and whistles. The SuperCrew means that the cab is much larger than a usual F-150, and I have to say that it really is. If you are looking for a truck that can fit a lot of people in it, then this may be the one for you.

2012 Volvo S60 T5 - Car Review

Keep Calm and Drive a Volvo

Volvo's are known for being some of the safest vehicles on the market. They are also sporty, fun to drive, and long lasting. If you're looking for a new ride, Volvo is a safe bet. This week I got to test drive a 2012 Volvo S60 T5. Now I may not know what all of that stands for, but I do know that I was impressed. The whole vehicle felt solid. I felt safe and secure during my whole drive.

These days many cars feel like tin cans, but the Volvo S60 T5 feels like a real car. Another great thing about this car is how responsive it feels. I could've sworn I was driving a V6. The car went when I told it to and accelerated steadily. The breaking was no joke either. I bet this Volvo could stop on a literal dime.

This Volvo is way too comfortable.

If this car wasn't so fun to drive, I would have fallen asleep. Not only does the beige leather interior look great, but it feels great too. The front and rear seating is extremely comfortable. The sun roof provides plenty of extra lighting, and there are tons of optional upgrades in this car.

Swing by Brevard Value Motors in Melbourne Florida for a test drive. With every desired upgrade, awesome safety features, and only 24k miles, this Volvo will be gone before you know it!

2012 GMC Yukon Denali - Test Drive Review

A super stylish & fully loaded SUV.

This week I had the pleasure of taking this gorgeous 2012 GMC Yukon Denali XL for a test drive. My first thought was, "where has this vehicle been hiding all my life". It's a huge SUV! It has double bucket seats, leather, rear A/C, 3rd row seating, and a built in DVD player. This Denali is truly fully loaded.

The interior is a soft beige with an elegant wood trim. The controls, knobs, and buttons are all like new. The flooring and seats are super clean, and the A/C is ice cold.

This Yukon Denali will get you places.

This particular Denali features a 6.2L engine with 4WD. It puts the giddy in "giddyup". I found myself bouncing up and down at every red light ready to take off. For a few moments I even forgot I was in an SUV.

This vehicle is very fun to drive. If your looking for an SUV with style, power, and luxury, then you need to give one of our GMC Yukon Denali's a test drive.

Super Spacious & Comfortable

I am a big fan of rear bucket seats. It makes accessing the back row bench seating easier. It also provides more storage space.

GMC spared no expense when designing the interior of this vehicle. Every seat feels like a first class experience.

Don't take my word for it. Come in for a test drive @ Brevard Value Motors on 192 in Melbourne Florida.
